About Us

Founded in 1896 and having more than 250 members statewide, the Alabama Independent Insurance Agents (AIIA) is the state’s largest and oldest association dedicated to Property and Casualty Insurance.  Our members offer customers all lines of insurance - property, casualty, life, health, employee benefit and retirement products from a variety of insurance. Any person, partnership, or corporation operating as an independent insurance agency and having agency appointments by at least two property and casualty companies or life and health companies may become a member of the association.

Dedicated to ensuring the continued success of the independent agency system, AIIA's for-profit AIMS department offers premier services to our members including coverages for Error & Omissions, Cyber, Commercial Umbrellas and Employment Practices Liability.  We also offer our members access to employment profile tests, website development and Premium Financing.  In addition, some insurance markets and products such as certain Flood Programs, In-Home Business policies, Personal Umbrellas, and a wide variety of personal and commercial lines policies through Big “I” Markets are made available exclusively to our members to sell to their customers.

In addition to offering our members a wide range of markets and services, AIIA has an award winning Education Department which hosts a full calendar of educational courses throughout the state designed for the insurance. The AIIA education classes are not limited to AIIA members or independent agents, but are available to all insurance professionals who are in need of any level of education. In addition to the in-class courses, AIIA offers a host of webinars.

AIIA also strives to maintain a vigilant lobbying and public relations effort on behalf of the independent insurance agent. This is done through dedicated lobbyist representation during each session of the Alabama Legislature, as well as maintenance of an active political action committee (BIG I PAC). In addition, IIABA maintains a national lobbying effort on behalf of independent agents, maintains political committees, and holds annual legislative conferences to give our members an opportunity to meet with Congressional representatives.

The mission of the Alabama Independent Insurance Agents is to be the unrelenting advocate for independent insurance agents and to fulfill member needs while serving the public’s best interest. For more information on our organization, please call (205) 326-4129.
