NEW LICENSE NUMBER CHANGES!
Please note that the Department of Insurance has installed new software that required a change in your Alabama Agent’s License Number.  The new numbers will begin with the letter “A” and are followed by six numerals, i.e. A009999.  The Department will still be able to identify licensees by the “old” number, but due to the change, all future written documents generated by the Department will reflect the “new” alphanumeric license number. Agents who hold multiple licenses will have the same “new” number for all license types.

Web-site Inquiry System in Works!
The Alabama Insurance Department announced today that they are in the process of loading agent license information into their Internet site data base. This will allow agents and brokers to check the status of their licenses with the department.  Look for this soon on www.aldoi.org

Also per our Newsline Bulletin dated March 20th, you should have started to receive some of the documents the Insurance Department mailed out on March 17th.  The documents mailed included:

1. License Renewal Notices for agents with March dates of birth.
 2. Agents and Service Representative Licenses - confirming those individuals born in October,
November, December, and January who have complied with annual renewal notices.
 3. Corporation and Partnership Renewal Licenses - Confirming they have complied with the 2000 renewal requirements.
 4. Surplus Lines Renewal Licenses - Confirming they have complied with the 2000 renewal requirements.

their licenses for September, October, November, December, January, and February.

Also, the Department suggested that agencies should refer companies to the Alabama Department of Insurance press release on their web site at www.aldoi.org as a short term solution for providing corporate licensing information.

AIIA also discussed with the Department the problems associated with the scheduling of licensing tests.  There was a backlog of information within the Department of Insurance; however, the notification information has now been sent to the University of Alabama.  Please be patient as they are processing that information as quickly as they can.

If you would like a copy of the press release as printed from the Alabama Department of Insurance’s web site, please call AIIA at (205) 326-4129 or visit the site directly at www.aldoi.org.

AIIA Legislative Conference Wrap-Up
The annual AIIA Legislative Conference at the Embassy Suites in Montgomery was a huge success with more than 120 agents and company representatives in attendance.   The conference provided the opportunity to visit Capitol Hill to meet with legislators and discuss issues important to our industry such as the mandatory automobile insurance legislation, the proposed legislation to do away with the countersignature requirement and reasons why we don’t need an insurance consumer advocate on the governor’s cabinet.  The first day of the conference featured speakers including Attorney General Bill Pryor, Sen. George Clay, Rep. Mike Hubbard, and Bill O’Connor from the BCA, as well as Reyn Norman from the Dept. of Insurance, Hugh McCall from the Dept. of Public Safety, and Scotty Spates from the Dept. of Industrial Relations.  The day was topped off by a joint legislative reception with the BCA at the Civic Center that was very successful.  On the final day of the conference agents were addressed by Supreme Court Justices Harold See and Champ Lyons and Civil Appeals Court Judge John Crawley who discussed their upcoming races.  The event was a huge success and we encourage everyone to attend next year!
