Four AIIA Members Selected As Best Practices Agencies

Four Alabama agencies are included as part of the elite group of independent insurance agencies around the United States, IIABA’s “Best Practices” Study Group for 2004. The purpose of Best Practices is to compile a list of the country’s leading agencies and brokers. Each year, nearly 1,000 agencies in the U.S. are nominated to take part in the annual study. Only 210 agencies qualify for inclusion; that is, the top 30 in each of seven revenue groups. Congratulations to the following Big “I” members for being selected as leading independent agencies in the United States:

Crawford Skinner Agency, Springville                                   Grimwood Insurance Agency, Huntsville

Thames Batre Mattei Beville & Ison, Mobile                      Thompson Insurance, Inc., Montgomery

The Best Practices Study was initiated by IIABA’s Commission to Enhance Agency Value in 1993 as the foundation for efforts to improve agency performance. The annual survey documents these agencies business practices and urges other agencies to adopt similar agency practices.

Damage from Hurricane Frances Expected to be Less Costly than Hurricane Charley

Risk Management Solutions (RMS), the world’s leading provider of products and services for the management of catastrophic risk, estimates that insured losses from Hurricane Frances will be between $3 and $6 billion. At this level, insured losses from Frances are less than losses from Hurricane Charley, which are currently estimated at $6 to $8 billion. Despite heavy rainfall associated with the slow-moving Frances, major inland flooding has not materialized. Florida residents will be eligible for federal relief assistance, as portions of the areas hit by Frances have been declared disaster areas. President Bush plans to ask Congress for an emergency $2 billion appropriation.
