Are
you getting your share of the $56 million dollar flood business in Alabama? Why
not? Did you know that research from FEMA (the Federal Emergency Management
Agency) shows that Alabama is in the top five (5) for the highest number of
major disaster declarations? Data from 1976 to 2000 shows Alabama is ranked
fourth in among all states and U.S. territories with 34 major disasters
declarations. Texas ranked first with 51 disasters during this same period;
California second with 45 and Florida third with 35 declared disasters. As an
insurance agent, these statistics are extremely important for several reasons.
Offering
flood insurance to your customers gives them peace of mind should flooding
occur. As we have seen in 2003 and 2004 with excessive rain in usually dry
seasons, flooding can be unpredictable, happening in non-flood zone areas or as
a direct result of improper storm drainage. Offering flood insurance to
customers will suppress possible E&O exposures as many homeowners do not
understand that flood insurance is not included in their HO policy – it is up
to you, the agent, to explain and offer flood protection. Writing flood
insurance can be very easy. And, yes, flood insurance is available for
communities that do not participate in the national flood program, or if the
residence is already in a flood zone. Another great thing about the flood
program is that FEMA regularly runs national commercials and public service
announcements – this free advertising could benefit your agency if you actively
sell flood insurance.
Gulf
Flood has an easy set up form, 17% commission for agents and will assist you in
getting your slice of the $56 million flood pie in Alabama. Gulf Flood offers
internet capability to rate, look up zones, upload applications and check
policies through their easy to use website. Bonuses available for rollovers.
