STATE LEGISLATIVE NEWS: H.B. 51 Defeated in Committee Last
week, an AIIA Legislative Alert called your attention to H.B. 51. This bill,
scheduled for vote by the House Judiciary Committee, would have reduced the
size of the Alabama Supreme Court members from 9 to 7. Thanks to our members’
time and phone calls to members of the House Judiciary Committee, the bill was
defeated 8 to 5. AIIA opposed this bill because it did not make sense to reduce
the size of a Court that is already deflecting more than 25% of their cases to
appellate courts.
Infinity Insurance Companies and Baron’s Baseball Team
Up for Opening Night Infinity Insurance Companies, AIIA and BIIA are
joining forces again to offer your family and friends tickets to The Birmingham
Baron’s Opening Night on Friday, April 9, 2004, at the Hoover Met on Highway
150. Tickets include ballpark admission, a B-B-Q dinner buffet, fireworks and
covered seating in a private balcony. A $2 donation will be made to AIIA’s
Young Agents Excalibur Scholarship Fund for each ticket sold. A qualifying student
studying insurance will be presented with the third Excalibur Scholarship at
this year’s Convention June 12-14th. AIIA and BIIA have reserved a
limited number of FREE tickets for our members. If you are a dues

EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES
Don’t miss out on P&C Licensing School at AIIA
in Birmingham. Agents Licensing School will be held March 15-19 from 8:00 a.m.
to 5:00 p.m. at 2918 Clairmont Ave. S. Birmingham. This course satisfies the
40-hour pre-qualification requirement set forth by the Alabama Dept. of
Insurance. Course fee is $225 for AIIA members, $300 for non members. Online
